Employment Application

The Town of Veazie is an Equal Opportunity Employer

You will need the pre-service training at a minimum. For information on the pre-service training, click here. (The Veazie Police will normally sponsor students for the pre-service training. Please contact the Chief of Police for info.)

Our initial employment screening process includes the following steps:

  1. Written Examination (MCJA ALERT Exam)
  2. Physical Fitness Assessment (MCJA 40th Percentile Standard)
  3. Oral Board Interview
  4. Chief’s Interview

We utilize the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA) ALERT Exam for the written examination portion of the process.  The ALERT Exam is a reading/writing comprehension test based on the level required to complete the MCJA Basic Law Enforcement Training Program curriculum.  All applicants who have not already taken this test must schedule the test with MCJA and present verification of the ALERT exam completion and a passing score.  Scheduling of the test, if not previously completed, and payment of fees is the responsibility of each applicant.  An ALERT Exam application can be obtained here.  The MCJA may be reached at 877-8000 to schedule an exam.

A passing physical fitness assessment is required to become a police officer with the Veazie Police Department.  All applicants who have not already taken this test must schedule the test with MCJA and present verification of the Physical Fitness Assessment completion and a passing score.  Scheduling of the test, if not previously completed, and payment of fees is the responsibility of each applicant.  The MCJA physical fitness testing protocol can be obtained here.  The MCJA may be reached at 877-8000 to schedule an exam.

After the initial screening process, the top candidate(s) will be given a Conditional Offer of Probationary Employment.  They will then be subject to an extensive background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical fitness examination as well as other specific conditions.
