Mission Statement

MISSION STATEMENT

The Veazie Police Department is committed to serving our community while protecting the rights of all people.  Consistent with this commitment, it is the Department’s Mission to provide a professional, community-oriented police service to the citizens of Veazie through fair and equitable enforcement of laws, preserving the peace and safeguarding the lives and property of the people we serve.  We are dedicated to creating and maintaining an active community partnership and assisting citizens in identifying and solving problems in order to improve the quality of life in our community.

CORE VALUES

The core values of the Department are central to our mission and serve to guide our work and decisions.  These values are the foundation upon which our policies, goals and operations are built.  Our values reflect the public trust and confidence given to those of us in police service by our communities.

Integrity

The integrity of each officer, in addition to that of the Department, is critical for us to earn the trust of the citizens.  Without it, we cannot expect to form a partnership with the community.  We are proud of our profession and will conduct ourselves in a manner that merits the respect of all with whom we come in contact.  We will demonstrate honest, ethical behavior in all interactions with the public and our fellow officers.

Excellence

We strive for excellence in everything we do, both personally and professionally.  We will never be satisfied with the “status quo.”  We will strive for continuous improvement by embracing change, innovation, and creativity to find new and better ways to serve our community.

Fairness

Professional policing requires the fair and equitable treatment of all people.  We believe in treating all people, ideas and opinions with dignity and respect as we, ourselves, would want to be treated.  We will act consistently with our values and expectations.  We will apply laws, rules, and regulations in an impartial and unbiased manner.

Leadership

Each member of the Department is responsible for establishing the direction of the department through their words and actions.  We will lead by example by going first and guiding those who follow.  We will do the right thing, even when no one is looking.  We will look for and acknowledge things that are done right.  We are willing to go beyond traditional expectations.

 Reverence for the Law

As police officers, we have been given the honor and privilege of enforcing the law.  In that regard, we respect the principles embodied in the Constitution of the United States and recognize the authority of federal, state, and local laws.  We will always exercise integrity in the use of the power and authority that has been granted us by the people.

Personal Responsibility

Every member of the Department has a vested interest in the success of our community.  We are dedicated to conducting our professional and personal lives in a manner that will be an example for all to follow.  We accept responsibility for our own actions and our own mistakes.  We will take the initiative to seek out challenges and risk success in finding new and better ways to accomplish our mission.
