Pre-Service Training Requirement
Applicants must complete pre-service training as a minimum qualification. The Veazie Police Department typically sponsors candidates for this training. For more information, please contact the Chief of Police directly.

Initial Employment Screening Process

The hiring process for the Veazie Police Department includes the following steps:

  1. Written Examination (MCJA ALERT Exam)
  2. Physical Fitness Assessment (MCJA 40th Percentile Standard)
  3. Oral Board Interview
  4. Chief’s Interview

Written Examination
The written examination consists of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy (MCJA) ALERT Exam, which is a reading and writing comprehension test designed to assess the candidate’s ability to succeed in the MCJA Basic Law Enforcement Training Program curriculum. Applicants who have not previously taken the ALERT Exam must schedule it with the MCJA and provide verification of a passing score. Physical Fitness Assessment
A passing score on the MCJA Physical Fitness Assessment is required to move forward in the hiring process. Applicants who have not already completed this assessment must schedule it with the MCJA and provide verification of successful completion and a passing score. Scheduling and payment for the assessment are the responsibility of the applicant. Post-Screening Process
After the initial screening, the top candidate(s) will receive a Conditional Offer of Probationary Employment. The candidate(s) will then undergo a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, medical fitness examination, and other specific assessments required by the department.
